Technology is an important contributor to the optimal design of infrastructure in or between cities. In fact, technology offers new possibilities and applications for a safe and efficient flow of traffic whilst helping to minimise CO2 emissions in the city. With the rapid increase in mobility, there is a strong need to better manage and monitor traffic flows. Good traffic management is also essential for road safety.

It is for that reason that Dynniq has created a platform that supports different types of smart mobility solutions that is the basis for a sustainable and safe smart ITS city environment. The Dynniq FlowSense service platform is a fully scalable cloud environment, which – on one side – has the ability to connect to any roadside system (e.g. traffic light controllers or outstations) and – on the other side – connects road users to provide all kind of C-ITS services. Of course by default, the platform connects to our own V2X devices, like the Dynniq on-board unit (OBU) and road side unit (RSU), the hybrid road side ITS Station, RIS with ETSI 4G LTE and/or G5 Wifi 802.11p and our newest traffic light controller, the “FlowNode”.

Dynniq FlowNode: the basis for Smart Mobility

The FlowNode is a system built on a tradition of innovation, safety, usability and robustness. As the successor for the EuroController EC-2, the FlowNode is also developed for the European market and complies with all Dutch and European directives. The FlowNode is designed to anticipate future requirements for cyber security, flexibility and open standards. This design and its compliance with the market’s toughest requirements for traffic safety and durability mean that the FlowNode can be used in a range of situations, both within Europe and around the globe.

As a Traffic Light Controller, the FlowNode supports safe and efficient management of traffic flows at intersections. On motorways, the FlowNode can serve as a ramp meter to regulate traffic flows. It can also be used to operate automatic rising barriers in order to divert traffic from urban centres. In tunnels, the FlowNode can act as an incident detection system as well as a shutdown system in unsafe situations. The system can furthermore signal and measure developing traffic jams to prevent accidents on secondary roads. Finally, by measuring traffic activity 24/7, the FlowNode provides valuable real-time traffic data as well.
