Our 5th anniversary

Since February 1, 2016, we have been operating under the name Dynniq. Did you know that our name is derived from the words dynamic, innovative and intelligent? To celebrate our 5th anniversary, we’re highlighting five very dynamic, innovative and intelligent projects from the past 5 years (in random order).

#1 – The largest city of Kazakhstan opts for smart mobility solutions from Dynniq Mobility

This project in Central Asia is still ongoing right now, but it is a true testament to being dynamic, innovative and intelligent. We’re currently transforming 450 intersections in the city of Almaty from local hardware with fixed time controls to traffic light controllers equipped with our fully adaptive traffic management platform, ImFlow. With this, we expect a huge improvement in traffic flow with shorter travel times, reduced emissions and priority for public transport in the near future. Upon completion, this will be our largest, international ImFlow reference. More to come soon!

#2 – Turku’s new street lights save energy

A challenging smart lighting project for Dynniq Finland was the renovation of street lights in the city of Turku. This renovation brings cost savings for the city, as the energy consumption of the new LED luminaires is about a third of that of the old high-pressure luminaires. Some of the now refurbished street lights dated back as far as the 1960s, the most recent refurbished from the 1990s. About a third of Turku’s 30,000 street lights now have the latest LED technology. The project had its own challenges, as the area where the renovation needed to be done included a cathedral. The cathedral is an ancient monument area where archaeological excavations have been carried out. The project to renovate the Piispankatu lights was therefore large-scale and challenging but our team in Finland did an amazing job. Something to be proud of!

#3 – Smart innovation always gives emergency services green light

In 2019, we introduced GreenFlow for BlueLights, an innovation that prevents accidents and saves lives. This application automatically switches traffic lights to green for emergency service vehicles. During the 2019 ITS European Congress, we announced that this smart innovation will help to reduce traffic accidents involving priority vehicles (belonging to e.g. emergency services) and allow them to reach their destination faster and more safely. We’ve just announced that Peek Traffic – by Dynniq and Vixionere have signed a partnership agreement to jointly deliver this state-of-the-art technology in the city of Merida, Mexico, to reduce travel time for the 1,100 emergency vehicles that are in operation. Read more here. We’re proud that this innovation is now being implemented in several cities worldwide!

#4 – Dynniq Mobility deploys its first EPIC contract in Ireland

Dynniq UK & Ireland deployed its first EPIC contract in Ireland to support Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) with its Traffic Optimisation Programme in Cork. This project is a significant step forward, leading to a newly installed innovative Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) infrastructure in Ireland, creating a much safer environment and improving road users experiences every day. The project is also the first of its kind and includes the Engineering, Procurement, Installation and Commissioning (EPIC) of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras, CCTV, Variable Message Signs and Traffic Monitoring. If you’re interested to learn more, we’ve highlighted some of the milestones from this project here and here.

And last but definitely not least…

#5 – The N470: a road full of innovations

The N470 in the Netherlands is a project that combines all the elements that we at Dynniq excel at. With the commissioning of its own electricity network, the most sustainable road in the Netherlands was completed on 26 November 2020. The N470 between Delft and Zoetermeer is the first road with a closed energy system, in which sustainable energy is generated, stored and used locally. Our DC microgrid connects the power supply of the Energy Wall, a sound barrier that simultaneously generates power, with our traffic light controllers (Dynniq FlowNode) and smart street lighting. A large battery ensures that the power generated during the day can be used at night. We have replaced all public lighting along the N470 with LED lighting. This smart lighting dims when there is less traffic. In addition, by using our dynamic traffic management system ImFlow, our smart traffic lights keep track of traffic themselves and automatically adapt to the volume of traffic. As a result, traffic has to stop and pull up less frequently. This smooth flow saves CO2 emissions, costs and valuable time for road users.

These are five projects that we’re very proud of but of course we have numerous more in our portfolio. If you want to learn more, please visit our news page for the latest updates.

We’re excited to see what the next five years will bring us!
